Coach Marianne Countryman is a USS Certified Swim Coach and Water Safety Instructor. She has been with the City of Atlanta Dolphins for 2 years. She competed as an age group swimmer from age 9 to 14 for YMCA Clubs. She held multiple team records and qualified for YMCA Nationals as a 12 year old in the 200 Fly.
Marianne is an accomplished competitive Master’s Swimmer for the Georgia Master’s National Team and trains exclusively under our own Head Coach, Tommy Jackson. She competes in Master’s competitions from the local level to the international stage. She enjoys both pool and open water competitions, but admits her favorite is Long Course.
In just 3 years, she has made her mark in Master’s swimming. For the last 3 years, Marianne has ranked in the Master’s World Top Ten in the 1500 and 800 Meter Free and 200 Meter Fly, with her highest ranking at 4 in the 1500 Meter Free. Each year she has had multiple US Top 10 rankings in Master’s swimming, currently holds several Zone records in the 400 IM, 200 IM , 200 Fly and 100 Fly, as well as multiple Georgia State Records in Freestyle, Butterfly, Backstroke and Individual Medleys. Marianne has also won two open water National Championships and has earned the All- American Recognition for long distance swimming.
She earned her Associates degree in Radiation Therapy in 1991 and has worked in Metro-Atlanta for more than 20 years in this field serving cancer patients and their families. She continues her work in the medical field part-time while pursuing her coaching and swimming endeavors. Marianne resides in Smyrna with her husband, Tom and her dog, Lacy.
